Beer got the branding. Water got a plastic bottle. That's been the deal forever.

Beer had the can, the colours, the hat you actually wanted. The person not drinking got whatever was left at the bottom of the cooler. JUG canned water is the Canadian brand that fixed it.

Brock James launched JUG in October 2025: Canadian water, 473 mL can, no plastic bottle.

That fall, LTD Customs, TEAMLTD's custom division, created JUG's first run of hats. Custom 5-panel snapbacks, 3D embroidered patches, designed in Mississauga, Ontario. Our first build for JUG, and the first post in our Partner Feature series.

What is JUG canned water?

JUG canned water is reverse osmosis filtered still water in a 473 mL aluminum can. JUG's own line for it: "Cold. Crisp. Canadian."

Brock James helped build brands at Cottage Springs and Ace Hill. Before that, Molson Coors Canada. So he knows what a cooler looks like at 11pm, and who in it isn't drinking.

JUG's story starts at a Nashville bar full of people crushing canned water. As JUG tells it, Canada had nothing like it. From Brock's launch post: "The idea came to me on a trip to the U.S., where canned water culture is thriving."

Their founder story puts it plainly: "So Brock left beer to sell water. Yes, everyone made the joke. No, he doesn't regret it."

Bars and restaurants said yes first, then golf courses, offices and hotels. Today JUG says it's in the fridge at 750+ spots. Brock's 10-month update adds Shake Shack's Ontario menu, Rogers Stadium, Boots and Hearts, plus the Badlands Tent at the Calgary Stampede.

JUG's whole look is vintage delivery-truck Canadiana: hand-painted signs, greasy spoons, dive bars, boat rides. Read that list again. That's a hat brief.

Why does a canned water brand need hats?

A canned water brand needs hats for the same reason a beer brand does: the can leaves, the hat stays. Beer figured that out decades ago. Water got a bottle and a mountain on the label.

Brock saw the gap from inside the beer business. Half the cooler wanted something cold that wasn't alcohol. Their options, in JUG's words, were "a warm plastic water bottle or nothing."

Merch has the same problem. We've written about merch that doesn't end up in a drawer.

The promo hat with the flat logo gets worn once, then disappears. A hat from a real brand gets worn until the brim splits.

Fix the object and people carry your name for free. JUG did it with the can. Then Brock sent us a deck and asked for hats.

What did LTD Customs build for JUG?

LTD Customs built three 5-panel hats for JUG canned water. Ordered in October 2025, all three live on jug.ca by late November 2025. Worked up in Mississauga from Brock's brief.

The deck landed in September 2025, titled Merch Direction. Brock already knew what he wanted. Three tiers, from a plain everyday cap up to a conductor-style blue stripe with a leather strap.

All three are 3D embroidered patch hats on the build we ran:

• Semi-structured 5-panel cap, cotton twill, flat visor
• Front: 3-inch patch, 3D puff embroidery (the raised kind), merrowed edge in JUG Red
• Left side: 2.5-inch flat embroidery of the "Canadian Fresh Water" script
• Back: woven Canadian flag tag on the closure
• Mesh inside the front panel, because July

Flat embroidery on a white crown reads like a logo. A raised patch with a red border reads like the badge on a delivery uniform.

Why do the JUG hats work as merch?

The JUG hats work because they look like JUG, not like a logo dropped on a blank. Hickory stripe is old workwear. The flag tag on the back is the proudly Canadian line from jug.ca, woven instead of printed.

The red under-brim is the one flash of colour you only catch when someone looks up. Or when the hat lands on the dash.

Beverage brand merch has one job: get worn.

A generic promo hat says we had budget. A JUG hat says we have taste. And taste gets worn on the back nine, at the dock, on a dive bar patio in September.

That's the whole argument in cotton twill. We built the same way for The KEE to Bala's summer collection: hats people wear first, branding second. Same bar we hold our own hats to, no lower.

Brock sells water that dresses like a delivery truck. We just made the hats that go with it.
