For a league with some of the "hardest" athletes in sports playing in it, the NBA is incredibly soft.
The finals have just kicked off, and I still cannot get over the fact that no team in NBA history has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit in the playoffs. What a joke. There's a reason the series goes to 7, so get to work.
The NBA record for teams closing out a series after being u 3-0 is 151-0 after the Heat beat the Celtics after they forced game 7. In the NHL, teams have successfully come back from a 3-0 deficit in the playoffs 4 times!
One of those was even in The Stanley Cup Final. Surprisingly that accomplishment belongs to the Toronto Maple Leafs after they bested the Detroit Red Wings in 7.
Just goes to show the difference in toughness. Charles Barkley recently went on Spittin' Chiclets, and when talking about Winnipeg Jets forward Morgan Barron, who needed over 75 stitches after a skate blade sliced him near his right eyebrow in Winnipeg's opening game of the playoffs, he said, "If an NBA player got 75 stitches, he would retire."
The moral of the story is that the NBA is a joke. Even the whole "load management" thing is ridiculous. When you sign a pro sports contract, the expectation is that you get paid to be the best in the world at what you do. Organizations invest millions into you because you are at the top of your profession and should be reliable enough to "be on" every night. Show up to practice and put in the work. Do the extra things and have the intangibles that make you great. But in the NBA, that is not the case.
In the NBA, if you're considered a top player on your team, it seems your season has 60 games max in it. Otherwise, you might "burn out." You'd never see this in hockey. Guys want to play. They want to go to war with their brothers and battle day in and day out. They embrace the suck and push through it. You can't say the same for some of the NBA's best though. Guys like Kawhi, LeBron, DeRozan, and the list goes on; they don't want it bad enough. Yet they're still considered "great."
For Christ's sake, Iowa wrestler, Spencer Lee, won his third NCAA D1 National Championship on a TORN ACL! He then went on to say, "Excuses are for wusses.'
